Overnight jobs that quietly couple you to the old region

8 June 2026

Region moves look clean in architecture diagrams. They look messier at 01:30 when a batch job still posts settlements to the source database.

Inventory jobs by write target

During a pre-migration application audit, we list scheduled jobs with their write destinations, not only their cron expressions. Jobs that “only read” sometimes write audit rows or renew leases. Those counts as coupling.

Secrets and certificates age on different calendars

Teams rotate application secrets for the move and forget the certificate that terminates traffic for a forgotten subdomain. Ownership of renewal dates belongs in the cutover register beside database failover assumptions.

One planning meeting is not optional theatre

We join a single migration planning session after the register is delivered. The goal is to translate findings into checklist owners, not to redesign the target architecture on the spot.

If your move week is already on the calendar, send the inventory early so evidence review is not racing the cutover rehearsal.
